Warning: Breach!

A little over two years ago, an idea was born from a feverish haze. The world was gripped in the midst of a pandemic, and an idea percolated about the kinds of fiction we write about disasters. Then an idea: what if there was a game about disaster management? Most disaster fiction (and games) focus on the hazards; the raging storm, the giant monster ravaging Tokyo, the super-volcano about to blow up the world. But most disasters are man-made in some way. What makes a disaster a disaster is our response to them, the structures that result in inaction and inequality.

BREACH is a game about such disasters. We've build a world not too dissimilar to our own, and ask this question when we play: What is worth saving? In Breach, players take on the role not of heroic first responders, but the bureaucrats that have to make policy and triage decisions, and live with the consequences of them. Just as much of Breach is concerned with the board room as it is with ground zero. The disasters faced by the players are decidedly unnatural, emanating from extra-dimensional intrusions upon their home reality, but there is much to be familiar with here.

Today we are releasing the first public release of the core rules. You can view them here, or download the .zip file attached here for everything you need to play a session for yourself. Public comments are welcome, and we hope that this game resonates with you in much the way that we feel it resonates with the disastrous times we live in.

Stay clear.

Signed,
The Board
